It can be hard when you enjoy cooking intricate meals that require a variety of pots and pans. Especially if you are working out of a small kitchen, RV, or vacation home.
Fortunately, cookware manufacturers have solved the dilemma of too many pans for too little space, with space-saving stackable cookware sets. They offer quality performance but don’t overwhelm your cabinets.
We’ve created a comprehensive list of the best stackable cookware sets so you can cook what you like, no matter the size of your kitchen!
Our Top Picks

The most obvious benefit of using stackable cookware is that it’s space saving. Depending on the set and brand, stacking the pots and pans inside of each other can create 30 to 50% more space.
This makes these sets ideal for small spaces, such as dorms and small kitchens, or for camping.
Some stackable cookware sets allow you to stack and nest pots and pans in any order with other cookware that shares the same diameter.
Others come with standout features like flat or interchangeable lids, removable handles, or mechanisms that lock the pieces together. That makes this space saving cookware very easy to store in any cabinet space.
Finally, stackable cookware sets with removable handles are both oven safe and easy to clean. You don’t have to run the risk of damaging the handle in the oven, simply remove before sliding the pan in.
And when running these pans through the dishwasher, you don’t have to worry about long handles getting in the way. Removing the handles also allows you to easily remove any stuck-on dirt.
Can All Pans Be Stacked?
Yes, technically any pans can be stacked. However, some pots and pans are more prone to scratching than others, so we wouldn’t recommend stacking them.
Stainless Steel Pans
Stainless steel is a hard, durable metal that doesn’t scratch. You may easily stack stainless steel cookware.
However, you may want to avoid doing this because the more the handles are slammed around, the more they can loosen from the pan. This is why stackable cookware sets come with removable handles.
If your stainless steel cookware set comes with removable handles, you’re good to go.
Hard Anodized Aluminum Pans
Like stainless steel, hard-anodized aluminum is a strong metal. In theory, you can stack hard-anodized pans without damaging them.
However, hard-anodized is not naturally nonstick, and these pans are often coated with a nonstick coating. This coating is a more delicate surface, and may easily become scratched if you aren’t careful.
If stacked carelessly, the nonstick coating can scratch or come off of the surface of your pans when it comes into contact with hard anodized or stainless steel edges.
Non Stick Pans
Some pots and pans can come with a ceramic coating even harder than Teflon. Even so, both of these non-stick surfaces are fragile and prone to scratching.
A lot of stackable pans come with a nonstick coating that manufacturers claim is safe to stack, like titanium or diamond coating. We still recommend adding a protective layer such as a pad to protect the cooking surface.
Carbon Steel and Cast Iron Pans
Carbon steel and cast iron pans can be stacked, even if they’re seasoned. However, you’ll want to remove any excess oil on the surface with a paper towel, or you’ll end up with greasy pans.
While they can’t be harmed by stacking, a stackable cookware set of cast iron pans doesn’t really exist. You may stack them but can’t remove the handles, which will get in the way. This same issue exists with carbon steel pans.
Another thing to be cautious of with cast iron is weight. If you are storing several cast iron pans, be sure that your cabinet can handle them. Cast iron pans and skillets can be extremely heavy.
Copper Pans
Just like cast iron skillets, copper pans can be technically stacked in a cabinet.
However, copper and tin are softer metals and can easily scratch or dent. When they are lined with stainless steel, you won’t run the risk of scratching the inside surface. However, the exterior remains soft and damageable.
For this reason, you won’t find any stackable copper cookware on the market. Copper pots and pans also have handles that get in the way of proper stacking.
You may stack this type of cookware, but only if you do so with a protective layer in between each piece
What to Look for in Stackable Cookware Set
Now let’s take a look at some of the features to look for when buying a stackable cookware set.
Stackable Feature
Nest Feature
Technically, all pans can be stacked. A small pan can always be nested into a larger one.
And you can use this trick: By inverting the lid and placing it on top of the pan, you create a surface on which to set another pan.
So, check to make sure that the cookware set is truly stackable. For instance, this Gotham Steel Stackmaster set has been specifically designed to stack, hence the name.
Handles
Another important thing to consider is the handles:
- Some sets have removable handles, which can be practical if you want to use your cookware in the oven.
- Other models have handles that lock together like this Tramontina Nesting Nonstick Cookware set.
Lids
Some stackable cookware sets like this Tramontina Nesting Set have lids that can be stored inside the pans. Others like this Calphalon set have flat lids. Finally, some have interchangeable lids, like this Gotham Steel Stackmaster set.
Pieces in Set
Some sets are more complete than others.
Even if they are stackable, make sure that the number included in the set can be fit into your cabinets.
Of course, also consider your cooking needs. A student or beginner won’t need the same set as an experienced cook.
For example, this Calphalon space saving set has 15 pieces, while the Shineuri has only two pans and a removable handle.
Budget
Consider your budget while considering your options. There is a wide price range between stackable sets.
For instance, this Caphalon Premier set costs about $650, while the Gotham Steel set costs about $150 for the same number of pieces.

Yes, you do need to protect your cookware.
We recommend this even if your cookware is advertised as stackable. However protection is especially important when stacking nonstick or copper pans.
You can add a protective layer or a pad like this example.
You can even use pads for stainless steel pans. While they are virtually indestructible, this type of extra care can increase your cookware’s lifespan.
