The Definitive Answer to Can Calphalon Pans Go in the Oven?

Can Calphalon Pans Go in the Oven?

The top concern for many Calphalon users is if their Calphalon pans are oven-safe? The quick and short answer is yes, Calphalon pans are certainly oven-safe.

But, there are some restrictions. This quick guide will explain why Calphalon pans can go in the oven and what the right temperatures are.

Calphalon Pans: Can You Use Them in the Oven?

Calphalon makes their cookware go straight from the stove to the oven. You can use all Calphalon pans in the oven up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. But oven-safe temperatures vary and some of their pans can withstand higher temperatures. Calphalon stainless steel pans are broiler-safe, but the hard-anodized non-stick pans are not.

At Which Temperature Are Calphalon Pans Oven Safe?

Calphalon pans are oven-safe between 400°F and 500°F, depending on the Calphalon’s collection you buy:

  • The Simply, Cooking with Calphalon, Kitchen Essentials and Select collections from Calphalon’s maximum temperature is 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Calphalon’s Contemporary, Commercial, Classic, Calphalon One, and Premier collections are equipped to withstand the maximum temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Finally, the Elite, Tri-Ply, Accucore, Pre-Seasoned, Unison, and Signature Collection of Calphalon pans can withstand maximum temperatures of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Also, all Calphalon pan lids are made from tempered glass, which makes them more robust than regular glass lids. The tempered glass lids are oven-safe only up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Just like the Calphalon pans, the handles can withstand the specified oven temperature of the product.

But Calphalon’s “stay cool” handles specifications only apply to cooking on a stovetop. High and long cooking temperatures combined with short handles can cause handles to get very hot. So make sure to use oven gloves or a potholder to avoid burns to your hands when removing pans from the oven.

Check this Calphalon guide to know more about each collection.

Are Calphalon Pans Oven Broiler-Safe?

Are Calphalon Pans Oven Broiler-Safe
Yes, if the Calphalon pan doesn’t contain a nonstick coating or silicone coating on the handles, then it’s broiler safe.

Please note however that Calphalon doesn’t indicate the maximum broiler temperature a pan can handle. So we recommend sticking to the maximum temperature the pan can handle in the oven.

That’s the case of the following collections:

  • Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron
  • Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless
  • Calphalon Contemporary Stainless
  • Professional Hard-Anodized
  • Calphalon One Infused Anodized
  • Commercial Hard-Anodized
  • Cooking with Calphalon Refined Stainless Steel

You’ll notice that these collections are made of stainless steel, copper, or bare cast iron. In fact, hard-anodized Calphalon’s non-stick pans can’t tolerate broiler temperatures.

So if you accidentally broil a Calphalon pan with a nonstick finish, you’ll end up with a destroyed coating. Plus it will void your warranty.

That’s the same case for enamel cast iron cookware. If you use it under the broiler, it will damage the porcelain enamel.

Be also aware that even if the silicone handle on some of the stainless steel collections is oven-safe, it could break down when broiling.

Finally, lids are not suitable for broiling at all.

Calphalon Pans Oven Safe FAQ

What Happens if I Overheat the Pan?

Non-stick cookware made with a Teflon breaks down over time under high temperatures exceeding 500°F (260°C). As the Teflon coating breaks down, it releases chemical fumes that are toxic to humans, animals, and the environment.

Doing so would deteriorate the coating of the pan, rendering Calphalon non-stick pans unusable. Plus it voids Calphalon’s warranty. And non-stick pans that are severely damaged and cracked should be thrown out and replaced.

If you overheat your Calphalon’s stainless steel or copper pan, you’ll end up with burnt food and discoloration of the cookware. The extreme temperature may also damage the cookware, causing warping. But it won’t cause any health effects.

Overheating your cast iron pan isn’t a good idea either. This can cause your pan to crack or take a permanent warp.

Can Calphalon Pans With Silicone Handles Go In the Oven?

Yes, they can if you strictly follow the temperature recommendations. But they aren’t broiler safe.

You should also be aware that Calphalon’s handles, whether silicone or metal, stay cool but only on the stovetop. If you put your pan in the oven, the handles will become very hot. Always use an oven mitt to prevent burns.

How Do I Fix an Overheated Stainless Steel?

For Calphalon’s stainless steel pans that have been burnt or scorched, distilled vinegar is the answer. Mix one part white vinegar to one part distilled water. Add the mix to the burnt stainless steel pan and place on a stove at medium-high for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The burnt build-up should start to come off.

Lightly scrub the burnt surface with liquid dish soap and a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse the stainless steel Calphalon pan with warm water and remove the residue.

If you notice that your stainless steel Calphalon pan has newly formed scratches, buffing the pan can restore its appearance.

Using a Scotch-Brite scrubbing pad, gently rub the pan along the grain in a circular motion until there is no trace of the scratches. Then use some Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser—It’s made for non-stick pans but works fine with stainless steel. Finally, rinse off with warm water.

How Do I Know What Calphalon I Have?

All Calphalon collections are identified by the specific design of their handles. Plus, the general design (construction, cooking surface, or used material) gives an indication about the collection. So the combination of shape, handles, and finish will help you determine what collection it is.

If you’re still unsure, contact Calphalon’s support.

A Pan For all Seasons

Although Calphalon pans are oven safe, it is essential to know what temperature is recommended for the Calphalon collection you purchase. The Calphalon pans are safe to use in the oven except if the handles are made from plastic. Make use of oven gloves since the collections’ “stay cool” handle specifications only refer to stovetop use.

All Calphalon pans glass tempered lids are safe to use in the oven up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. None of the tempered lids or the Calphalon pans are suitable for oven broiling. This would cause irreversible damage to your Calphalon pans and lids.

Now that you are equipped with pertinent information, we hope you are excited to create culinary magic with your Calphalon pans.
